Merry Christmas!
December 25th is the biggest holiday of the year and a lot of people- especially children- enjoy the most. In December people start sending Christmas cards and decorate their houses. Almost every home has a Christmas tree. The evening before Christmas is called Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve people go to church and sing Christmas carols. People prepare a traditional dinner of turkey or ham with vegetables, salads and desserts. There are also special cookies, candies, nuts and fruits. All around the world, children get presents for Christmas. The presents are put in different places: in shoes, stockings or under the Christmas tree. Christmas stockings are red. Children hang them by the fireplace. Santa Claus puts small gifts into the stockings. These can be oranges, chocolate coins or small toys. In Poland, children open their presents on Christmas Eve, after the evening meal. In the UK and the USA, everybody opens their presents on Christmas Day. People believe that Santa Claus lives in the North Pole and he makes toys for children with the help of Christmas elves. He also watches children and checks if they are good or naughty. On Christmas Eve he travels around the world and brings presents to all of the good boys and girls. The naughty children get coal from Santa.
